Fire destroyed a two-story house in northern Riley County this (Tuesday) morning. Riley County fire chief Pat Collins tells KMAN the home belonged to Robbie and Lesa Reves, but was unoccupied at the time. The tenant had moved out last week. Riley County Police are being called in to assist in the investigation, with the cause under investigation. Power and propane were both off to the house, which is located at 16100 Green-Randolph Road, between Randolph and Green. The fire was called in at 6:10 Tuesday morning, with 30 Riley County firefighters responding. Damage is estimated at $65,000.

Construction is expected to get underway on Pillsbury Crossing Road starting Tuesday morning. The road will be shut down as workers install a new culvert. Riley County assistant public works director Rod Meredith says the road will be closed about a quarter-mile west of Pillsbury Cross Lane. COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP)   University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton has decided to remain in Columbia rather than take an overseas trip as he decides whether the school should leave the Big 12 Conference. Deaton was scheduled to leave Tuesday for a 9-day international conference in India.  Instead, school spokeswoman Mary Jo Banken said Monday that the chancellor won’t go so he can deal with other duties in his office that are more important.  Missouri is mulling a move to the Southeastern Conference.  University curators gave Deaton authority earlier this month to explore leaving the Big 12, which has lost…

K-State couldn’t quite rally against Baylor on Saturday night, as the Bears prevailed in five sets in Waco.  Baylor took the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-22, before the Cats evened the match with wins of 25-18 in set three and 25-14 in the fourth.  But, the Bears gained an edge midway thru the final frame and held off K-State 15-13 for the win.  Kaitlynn Pelger led K-State with 20 kills and 14 digs.  Two other players also had a double-double, Kathleen Ludwig had 17 kills and 10 digs, and Caitlyn Donahue added 51 assists and 16 digs.  Five Bears reached double…

Two men are charged with murdering a Junction City woman to keep her from telling police about a drug trafficking operation. The indictment was unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Topeka. Grissom joined Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown and Geary County Attorney Steve Opat at a news conference in Junction City today (Monday) to announce the unsealing of the indictment. Virok Webb, 34, and Marcus Roberson,29, both of Junction City, are charged with killing Crystal Fisher, who was found shot to death March 3rd of 2010, in Junction City.
