Authorities have arrested a Junction City man after he apparently brandished a firearm during an argument. According to the Riley County Police Department, 27-year-old Brian McCallum was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct after an incident Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Fort Riley Blvd. and Poyntz Ave. A 39-year-old man was listed as the victim in the case. McCallum was issued a total bond of $6,000 but was no longer confined as of Monday’s arrest report. Click here for more local news.

A Manhattan man was cited over the weekend after striking a pedestrian with her truck Friday afternoon. The Riley County Police Department says 26-year-old Jason Bryant was driving in the 800 block of North 3rd Place when the incident occurred. The pedestrian, 24-year-old Samantha Taylor, also of Manhattan, was transported to Via Christ for treatment of her injuries. Bryant was cited for failing to yield to pedestrian in a crosswalk. Officers responded to a report of an injury crash in the 800 block of N 3rd Pl. in Manhattan on July 11, 2025, at approximately 12:13 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by, Jason Bryant, 26, of Manhattan had struck a pedestrian, Samantha Taylor, 24, of Manhattan. The RCPD released its latest reports, detailing a range of criminal activity in Manhattan over the weekend of July 12–13. Among the most serious incidents were multiple arrests related to domestic violence. On July 12, officers responded to a domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery case at The Links Apartments on Augusta Way. Eighteen-year-old Malachi Kahssay was arrested for allegedly choking a family member, while 19-year-old Alexander Anderson was also arrested in connection to the same case. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office Friday morning issued a press release in an attempt to find witnesses to a fight in rural Wamego on July 3. One person was taken to an area hospital for their injuries when the sheriff’s office responded to a report from an injury from a fight at a party in the area of Elm Slough (Slew) Rd and Traytons Lane. For the second straight season, Kansas State is extending head women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie’s contract. The one-year contract extension, announced by the team on Thursday, follows the Wildcats’ first Sweet 16 berth in over two decades and looks to keep Mittie in Manhattan until 2030. Last year, Mittie signed a five-year contract through the 2028-29 season, which set his base salary for the 2024-25 season at $750,000.
