The City of Wamego is gearing up for the 2026 Tulip Festival this weekend. Wamego Chamber of Commerce tourism and events coordinator Corey Reeves stopped by our studios to preview the annual community event.
Authorities are investigating an alleged knife chase involving a pair of teenagers in Manhattan. The Riley County Police Department filed a report just after 9 p.m. Friday when a 15-year-old boy told police a 14-year-old boy chased him with a knife. No further details were immediately provided.
It’s going to cost more for Riley County to upgrade infrastructure for the information technology and geographic information systems remodel project. Commissioners on Monday unanimously approved a $53,753 increase in design services, bringing the total cost to $132,603. Public works director John Ellermann said after the commission on March 19 approved installing a generator at the former EMS facility to power the server room and elections office, Baker McMillan Architects revised its estimates given the new scope of the project. The Riley County Health Department and Kansas Department of Health and Environment are continuing a program that provides residents access to healthcare coverage through presumptive eligibility determinations and KanCare application support. Commissioners, convening as the board of health on Monday, unanimously approved the renewal of a memorandum of understanding between the two entities. Riley County’s women, infants and children program supervisor Kaylyn Speth told commissioners that 647 applications were completed for residents since Riley County started the program in 2022. Big bucks are coming to Kansas State University. U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, a Kansas Republican, announced Friday in the Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Auditorium on the Manhattan campus that $4.9 million in federal resources will support K-State’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Moran, a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, said the announcement is not just “a piece of good news” for K-State and the state of Kansas, but also for the world.
