MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Legendary K-State Athletics figure Ernie Barrett, affectionately known as ‘Mr. K-State,’ with his trademark firm handshake, passed away on Friday morning (April 21) at the age of 93 in Manhattan, Kan. A Celebration of Life is planned for 1 p.m., CT on Thursday, April 27 at Bramlage Coliseum with a reception to follow in the Shamrock Zone. The service and reception are open to the public. Over the past month, Riley County officials and others have been in contact with potential task force members to provide input on the future state of the fairgrounds and whether it should be relocated. Riley County Extension Director Gary Fike, who will chair that task force, presented commissioners Thursday with 10 names that have been selected as potential appointees. Officers conducted a search warrant in the 1500 block of Hillcrest Dr. in Manhattan on April 20, 2023, around 2:45 p.m. which led to the arrest of Sierra Wells and Thesiaus Robinson, both 20, both of Manhattan after drugs and guns were found.
