WICHITA,Kan. — Authorities say a 59-year-old woman who was found unresponsive at a Wichita apartment building fire has died. Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief Jose Ocadiz told the Wichita Eagle that the cause of the Friday’s fire remains under investigation, but it appears accidental. He says all 12 units of the building are currently unlivable. The property manager is helping to place residents in other apartments in the complex. The damage is estimated at $250,000 to the building and $100,000 to its contents.

LAWRENCE, Kan. — A 21-year-old Kansas lawmaker has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving his second arrest in less than a month. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a trooper arrested Aaron Coleman around 1 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 70 near Lawrence and taken to the Douglas County Jail, where he bonded out hours later. At the time of the arrest, Coleman was already out on bond from an Oct. 30 domestic battery arrest following a fight with his brother. The Riley County Seniors Center is bringing a special guest to the Christmas holiday lunch. Liz Nelson, seniors service center program director, tells KMAN the holiday lunch will take place on December 10, and following the lunch this year will be a guest speaker- Sally Newton. If inflation at the grocery store makes you cringe, farmers trying to purchase fertilizer and herbicides can more than relate. Greg McClure, Riley County K-State Ag Extension Agent, says anhydrous ammonia prices are what scares him a lot right now. He says prices last December were $424 a ton, but today, that isn’t the case. “I looked it up again in September and it was about $680. Tuttle Creek Lake levels are right where they need to be for this time of year. Tuttle Creek Operations Project Manager Brian McNulty says the rain during this season has led to some rising in levels. Initially the lake rose about three feet, then more later on in the season. When the winter months start coming, potential snow could have an impact on levels. Novel coronavirus recoveries have outpaced new cases in Riley County since last week’s report. 54 new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Riley County Health Department Wednesday, with 98 recoveries being reported as well since November 18. As of Wednesday, seven patients were under care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital — one of whom is fully vaccinated. Three unvaccinated patients are in the ICU. That brings total active cases to 117, with the percent positivity rate dropping to 4.7 percent from 7.9 percent in the last week.
