It has been over 65 years since the Belvue Bridge was built, and Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee Counties have been working to repair the now deteriorating structure that crosses the Kansas River.  A 9 million dollar plan for the project was approved in the early spring of 2022, and county commissioners have attempted to receive federal grant funding for the project multiple times.  Pottawatomie County commissioners met for their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, and County Administrator Chad Kinsley had good news to share. Senator Jerry Moran began seeking these Congressionally Directed Spending dollars in June of last year. The county is…

Both the 0.5% local sales tax and the 0.2% countywide sales tax on roads and bridges will take effect in January. At the end of last year, the prior 0.5% sales tax expired. The county split the tax money with the city of Manhattan, but the latter split off to enact its own tax. The five-year term of the new county tax is expected to bring in $10 million during that time. The 0.2% countywide sales tax will be used to pay for the costs of repairing, maintaining, and building bridges and roads. The proposed new city tax is expected…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs keep winning and Patrick Mahomes keeps making history. Both are doing so despite some difficult offseason decisions that have prolonged their ability to do so. The biggest, of course, was the decision to trade Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins, rather than lavish on the game-breaking wide receiver a massive contract that would have made it difficult to maneuver financially for years to come. The Chiefs not only gained salary cap flexibility with the move, but also five draft picks that helped to fortify other areas of the roster. That includes the…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The coach making all the important decisions on the Denver sideline was different Sunday. So was the one calling the offensive plays from a booth high above Arrowhead Stadium. The result was very much the same. Less than a week after the beaten-down Broncos fired first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett, and put 67-year-old career assistant Jerry Rosburg in charge, they fumbled through another game they could’ve won. Their defense collapsed when it mattered the most, and their offense made many familiar mistakes, in a 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It was the seventh…
