Riley County Police filed a report of a vehicle burglary on December 6, 2024, at approximately 7:13 AM in the 1100 block of Ratone Street in Manhattan. A 24-year-old Manhattan man and a 23-year-old woman from Parsons, Kansas, were listed as victims. Authorities reported that their Ford passenger vehicle was stolen along with a Remington 12-gauge shotgun and a CZ 12-gauge shotgun. The vehicle was later recovered, but the total loss associated with the incident is estimated at $1,050. Police urge anyone with information about the burglary to contact Crime Stoppers. Riley County Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on December 8, 2024, at approximately 12:47 PM in the 2500 block of Marlatt Avenue. Officers identified 17-year-old Malachi Kahssay of Manhattan as the driver. Reports indicate Kahssay became distracted and lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the rollover. Emergency Medical Services transported Kahssay to Via Christi for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Kahssay was cited for using a cellphone without a hands-free device.

A Manhattan woman spent the weekend behind bars after failing to appear in court for previously alleged crimes 26-year-old Nichole Lynn Cochrun, was arrested at the RCPD station Friday evening around 6 p.m. on one count of failure to appear. The original charge was for interference with a law enforcement officer and felony obstruction. Cochrun is still being held in the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $20,000.
Two people lost their lives, and a teenager sustained serious injuries in a two-car collision on Sunday evening in Clay County, Kansas. The crash occurred around 5:35 p.m. on K-15 highway, approximately 15 miles south of Clay Center, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Deanna L. Hess, 56, of Clay Center, was traveling southbound when it crossed the centerline and collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Impala on the driver’s side.
