KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police say the drummer of the rock band Tool has been arrested and charged with a municipal assault violation for allegedly using an anti-gay slur during a confrontation at Missouri’s Kansas City International Airport. Court documents show airport police arrested 60-year-old Malibu, California, resident Danny Carey on Sunday. Police say Carey used an anti-gay slur and repeatedly jabbed someone in the chest with two fingers. The municipal assault violation is punishable by 180 days in jail, a $250 to $1,000 fine, or both. The Kansas Board of Regents has approved new admissions standards that create a path for students to attend the University of Kansas without taking the ACT or SAT standardized tests. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the board on Wednesday unanimously voted to allow admission of students with a 3.25 or higher high school GPA. Chancellor Douglas Girod said that high school grade point averages do a better job than ACT scores of predicting college success. K-State’s new band hall at Memorial Stadium will be named in honor of its longtime band director. The new facility will be called the Tracz Family Band Hall, after Band Director and Professor of Music Dr. Frank Tracz.  It will provide the university’s marching band  with designated rehearsal, storage and office space next to the field where the band practices. The request for this naming was submitted to the Kansas Board of Regents and approved on Wednesday. Plaza West redevelopment discussions were brought back to the table with city commissioners at a Tuesday work session. . The project would focus on bringing retail, multifamily housing, and hospitality to the Plaza West area. Commissioners previously met on the topic in July and expressed concerns with the areas floodplain. The area flooded during the 2018 flood of Wildcat Creek. A Fort Riley Middle School student will be the youngest competitor in 2021 US Paralympics Swimming National Championship. Kenley Teller will be heading to Greensboro, North Carolina this week for the championship, after a year of being out of the pool due to COVID. Teller first participated in the national championship two years ago, where once again she was the youngest swimmer to participate. Teller was born with popliteal pterygium syndrome. DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified two people killed in the collision of two semitrailers east of Dodge City. Investigators say the crash happened at U.S. 50 and U.S. 283 about 4:50 a.m. Monday, when a northbound semi failed to yield at the intersection and collided with an eastbound semi. Investigators say both semitrailers caught fire.
