The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Belleville man in connection to the death of his three-month-old daughter. 23-year-old William McLaughlin, of Belleville, was arrested Thursday around 11 a.m. for first-degree murder and felony abuse of a child. The unresponsive infant was initially brought to the Republic County Hospital on Christmas. She had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at an Omaha hospital on Dec. 29. Following the arrest, McLaughlin was booked into the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Nebraska. The KBI said in a press release that the investigation is ongoing.

The Wamego Police Department is warning local residents of a new scam popping up that involves fradulent rental properties. In a Monday Facebook post, the Department said that one person had fallen victim to fraud. The victim was searching on a legitimate webpage for an apartment to rent, where he contacted the fake “landlord” through the website and then on the phone. An appointment was made to meet at the property, but after the suspect didn’t show up, he called and apologized to the victim to schedule another appointment. A 14-year-old boy from Manhattan, Radwan Alderous, was injured in an unintentional shooting on December 27, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 6:57 PM when Alderous accidentally shot himself. Officers filed a report of an unlawful discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of weapons.
