City commissioners are expected on Tuesday night to consider approval of a purchase and sale agreement with Amazon, totaling $206,010 for a roughly 15 acre tract of land in the Manhattan Business Park, west of the airport. The Seattle-based company plans to build a 70,000-square-foot warehouse, which will reportedly serve a broader region around Manhattan for “last mile” delivery services, according to a Monday newsletter from the Chamber of Commerce. Two people were hospitalized after a carbon monoxide incident late Saturday morning at a hotel on Manhattan’s southwest side. Firefighters were dispatched to the DoubleTree by Hilton, just before 11 a.m. and found elevated carbon monoxide levels inside the hotel. The hotel was evacuated to allow crews to monitor the atmospheric conditions throughout the building. Riley County EMS transported two hotel guests to Ascension Via Christi and evaluated several others on scene. The cause was determined to be the pool heater and inoperable exhaust fans for the heating system. Click here for more local news.

Forecasters say an intense upper level disturbance will move through the region today, resulting in another a stormy afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has the Manhattan area in an enhanced (level 3) risk for severe weather. The best chances for thunderstorms will develop across northeast and east central Kansas, with all severe weather hazards possible, including large hail, damaging winds and even tornadoes. MANHATTAN, KS — The Riley County Police Department reported five arrests over the weekend, according to the department’s latest media arrest summary released Sunday morning. Among those detained was 32-year-old Javontae Dashon Darby of Manhattan, who was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. on May 18. Darby faces charges of shoplifting items valued under $1,500 and possessing tools to remove theft detection devices. He remains confined at the Riley County Jail with a bond set at $3,000. Police also arrested 18-year-old Jaeleon Malachi Jefford on the evening of May 17 on a warrant. Jefford is charged with aggravated battery and aggravated…

Kansas State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has added a frontcourt piece to the 2025-26 roster, as Jenessa Cotton has signed with the Wildcats. White, a 6-foot-2 forward from Orange, California, played her first collegiate season in 2024-25 at Duke. She saw action in eight games with 44 minutes played.
