Robert Copple, hospital president of Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan announced Thursday he is leaving the hospital, effective this week. In a statement sent to hospital staff, Copple said he and his wife, Kim, are not leaving the community. Riley County police are investigating a motorcycle theft reported Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Laramie Street. Officers were called around 10:15 a.m. after a 19-year-old man reported his Honda motorcycle had been stolen by an unknown suspect. The bike is valued at about $2,700. A Manhattan man was arrested Wednesday evening on two outstanding warrants and is now facing additional charges. Riley County Police say William Benner, 24, was taken into custody Wednesday evening in the 400 block of Fort Riley Blvd on warrants for failure to appear, stemming from past charges of drug possession and driving without a license. During his arrest, Benner was additionally charged with interfering with law enforcement and trafficking contraband into the jail. He remains jailed on a total bond of $18,500. A Manhattan man is behind bars after a report of criminal damage to property and intimidation of a witness. According to the Riley County Police Department, 33-year-old Michael Brooks was arrested Wednesday evening. The victim in the case is a 27-year-old woman. Police say the two are known acquaintances. Officers filed a report of criminal damage to property and intimidation of a witness or victim at approximately 6:34 p.m. on Oct. 22, 2025 in Manhattan. A 27-year-old woman was listed as the victim and 33-year-old man known to the victim was listed as the suspect. Michael Brooks, 33, of Manhattan, was arrested at approximately 9:08 p.m. in Manhattan for criminal damage to property and intimidation of a witness or victim.
