Thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen Tuesday from a store at the Manhattan Town Center. RCPD Officers filed a report of theft at approximately 7:15 p.m., listing Kay Jewelers as the victim. It was reported an unknown male suspect stole a 10k yellow gold diamond ring and an Italian 24″ 10k yellow gold necklace. The estimated total loss associated with this case is $10,000.

Brycen Tyler, 16, of Manhattan was arrested on August 29, 2023, at approximately 2:15 p.m. at Manhattan High School (MHS) after it was reported he made threats of violence and indications he may possess a weapon. A School Resource Officer made contact with Tyler after receiving reports of these comments and found that he was not in possession of a weapon. Ultimately, Tyler was arrested for aggravated criminal threat and transported to the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility in Junction City. A 16-year-old male was arrested Tuesday at Manhattan High School. Riley County Police Officers responded to the school around 2:15 p.m. after reports that Brycen Tyler was making threats of violence and indicating he may have a weapon. The Manhattan Fire Department was called out Tuesday evening for the report of smoke coming from the Manhattan Walmart store’s lawn and garden center. Crews arrived around 5:30 p.m. and noticed multiple flashing lights inside and outside of the store. A motor issue on the roof was found to be the source of the smoke and firefighters quickly isolated the problem. The store was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Evergy was called out to restore power, but the store remained closed through much of the evening. A damage estimate has not been provided.

Freshman Maddie Myers placed 5th, shooting 79. Sophomore Lily Bahr tied for 10th, shooting 86. Sophomore Kat Ball placed 13th, shooting 88. A Manhattan woman’s car was sold without her permission Monday, according to the Riley County Police Department. A 53-year-old woman told police the incident happened after a 33-year-old man known to her sold the car without asking her. The estimated total loss is around $3,000. The car was recovered later Monday evening by the Junction City Police Department.
