Pete Hughes, a proven program builder who has accumulated more than 650 victories in 21 seasons as a head coach, was named the 21st head baseball coach at Kansas State, Director of Athletics Gene Taylor announced Friday. This is according to a release from K-State Athletics. K-State junior outfielder Drew Mount was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 16th round (469th overall) of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday. This is according to a release from K-State. Mount, who finished his first season at K-State after transferring from De Anza College, led the Wildcats in home runs (9), triples (7), RBI (47), slugging (.538) and stolen bases (21). His triple total is the highest from a Wildcat since Heath Schesser recorded eight in 1997. (AP) Not even an early exit by Shohei Ohtani could stop the Los Angeles Angels from beating Kansas City again. Justin Upton homered for the third time in four games and the Angels defeated the Royals 4-3 after Ohtani was removed following the fourth inning because of a blister on his pitching hand Wednesday night.
