Let the preseason hype begin as Phil Steele has named four K-State players preseason all-Americans in his annual College Football Preview. Steele tabbed a pair of Wildcat juniors first team preseason all-American in former walkon BJ Finney at center, and Tyler Lockett at kickoff returner. Finney has started all 26 games in his Wildcat career, including the last 25 at center. Lockett has returned four kickoffs for touchdown in two years at K-State, and was third in the nation last season with an average of 32.8 yards per return.
K-State seniors Ty Zimmerman at safety and Tramaine Thompson at punt returners are second team preseason all-Americans. Zimmerman tied for the Wildcat lead in interceptions with five, recovered two fumbles, and had 50 tackles, including three for loss. Thompson returned a punt for a touchdown last season and led the country with an average of 19.8 yards per runback.
