The Riley County Police Department has received information about an attempted potential scam in the area. This “Apartment Scam” reported Tuesday involves an unknown scammer sending information about approval on an apartment or home lease. In the scammer’s correspondence, they ask for a deposit to be mailed or wired with the promise of mailing keys to the victim afterward.
The Riley County Police Department reminds the community to be mindful of this and other scams and not release funds or information to persons you cannot identify. When receiving emails or documents, spelling errors and improper grammar could be a sign that the document is part of a scam. For more information RCPD authorities suggest you visit IC3.gov.
