Three new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed over the weekend in Riley County.
Local health officer Julie Gibbs says the three new cases brings the county’s cumulative total to 71 since testing began earlier this year.
“They’re all males, aged 55, 32 and 88. We have a total of 11 active cases which we are still monitoring, the rest are recovered,” she said.
As of Monday, there were two people hospitalized on ventilators and two persons under investigation. The county also has 23 pending test results and 1,365 negative tests.
Phase three of the county’s reopening plan begins on Wednesday, with the health department set to release more details ahead of Wednesday’s Local Health Order No. 11.
“That will increase our mass gathering size to 100. So that’s 100 in a group for planned events. We’ll also lift that restriction of bars and restaurants closing at midnight,” Gibbs said.
Large venues of more than 2,000 capacity are not allowed under the new order. The health department is planning to increase gathering sizes to 250 people by June 17.
Playgrounds will begin reopening in Manhattan on Wednesday. The Sunset Zoo is planning a soft reopening this week for members before opening to the general public on Saturday.
