With several new faces on board the K-State women’s basketball team began exhibition play last night against Fort Hays State in Bramlage Coliseum.
Filling in the shoes of former Wildcats Jalana Childs and Branshea Brown, were Chantay Caron and Ashlynn Knoll in the Wildcat starting lineup along with a new face in true Freshman Brianna Craig who earned a bucket to help K-State extend their lead early.
After going back and forth with the Tigers for quite some time, the Wildcats finally found some breathing room thanks to a basket from Sophomore Ashia Woods. Woods led the team in scoring with 19 points on the night and earned a bucket that helped the Cats keep a comfortable lead with Fort Hays State in the second half as the Cats held on the rest of the way winning 68-57.
Britney Chambers added 17 points for K-State with help from Caron who scored 14 on the night.
The K-State women’s team played last night without guards Mariah White and Haley Texada, each are serving a suspension due to a failure to meet department requirements. The Wildcats will conclude exhibition play on Monday as they host the Washburn Lady Blues inside Bramlage Coliseum at 7:00pm.
