After each player scored a non-offensive touchdown for K-State in last Saturday’s 44-30 win over Oklahoma State, both Allen Chapman and Tyler Lockett were named Big 12 player of the week. Chapman received the defensive nod after picking off three passes including one that he took 29 yards back to the house from Wes Lunt late in the 2nd quarter to put K-State up 31-17. Lockett was tabbed for special teams after he returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.
Kansas State senior Anthony Cantele is one of 20 players nationally to be named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top place kicker. Cantele was one of four kickers from the Big 12 on the list, while he picked up the sixth semifinalist selection in school history. Martin Gramatica was the 1997 winner and 1998 runner-up, while Jamie Rheem was a two-time runner-up (1999 and 2000) and Joe Rheem was a semifinalist in 2004.
