Thomas Gipson scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as K-State pulled away in the final 14 minutes to beat Texas Tech 75-55 at Bramlage Coliseum on Monday night, and maintained their hold on the Big 12 lead. Angel Rodriguez added 16 points and seven assists, Nino Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Rodney McGruder posted 10 points and seven boards. The Red Raiders were topped by 14 points from Dusty Hannahs and 13 from Jaye Crockett.
The Cats pulled out to an early 12-4 lead before Tech made the rest of the first half a battle, as McGruder knocked down a jumper at the buzzer to give K-State (23-5, 12-3) a 31-30 halftime lead. The Red Raiders (9-17, 2-13) led for the final time at 44-42 with 14:19 left when Jordan Tolber hit a jump shot. Williams scored all 11 of his points in a row, and the Wildcats went on a 33-8 burst to close the game before a late Tech 3-pointer.
K-State will travel to Baylor on Saturday night for a 6:00pm tipoff. Pregame begins at 5:00 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN and 101.5 K-Rock from the K-State Sports Network.
