Aaryn Ellenberg scored 18 points and Sharane Campbell added 14 to lead a balanced scoring attack as 23rd-ranked Oklahoma held off a scrappy Kansas State squad for a 74-68 victory in Women’s Basketball action Wednesday night at Bramlage Coliseum. K-State started fast thanks to the three-point basket and took an early 8-4 lead on the second place Sooners but a cold spell allowed Oklahoma to go on a 23-7 run and take a 27-15 lead.
The Wildcats were able to cut the deficit to eight points late in the first half but two three-pointers by OU allowed the Sooners to go into intermission with a 35-25 lead. Haley Texada stepped up her game in the second half and nearly brought K-State all the way back by herself as she scored most of her game-high 25 points in the second half. Texada’s layup with 12:10 remaining in the second half cut Oklahoma’s lead to 44-42 and later in the second half the Wildcats trailed 59-55. However turnovers were the Wildcats undoing allowing Oklahoma (17-5, 7-3) to sink key shots and pull away for the victory.
Kansas State (12-10, 3-7) lost its third consecutive game. In addition to Texada’s 25 points, Mariah White added 15 and Brittany Chambers contributed 14.
The Wildcats are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Ames to take on Iowa State. Tipoff at Hilton Coliseum is set for 1 p.m.
