In the past several months, Riley County Police Department has been made aware of several scams that have claimed large amounts of money from several local victims. RCPD encourages the public to stay vigilant in protecting their information, property and money from deceit. RCPD offers the following information to help the public stay informed.
Be suspicious of correspondences that state you have won a lottery, have a family member currently incarcerated out of the country, or request that you “wire,” “send,” or “ship” money in order to claim a prize, deposit, or loan of any kind. RCPD also reminds the public to be cautious of their personal and account information and encourages them not to release this information. Riley County Police also suggest informing family and friends of possible scams in order to increase the public’s awareness of these crimes.
