Jared King will skip his senior season at K-State and sign with the New York Mets on Tuesday after being taken in the fifth round of the MLB draft.
“It’s a tough decision,” King told KMAN’s “The Game” on Monday. “We had a great year and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m happy everything fell into place.”
King will fly to New York to sign his contract. He will start with the Brooklyn Cyclones, a short-season A affiliate of the Mets, where he will likely begin playing with the team later this week.
“It’s a great organization and a great system to be in and I’m excited to get started,” said King.
King was taken with the 146th overall pick by the Mets after leading K-State to it’s first ever super regional. The 2012 signing bonus value for the 146th pick in the MLB draft was $305,700 and King’s signing bonus will likely be similar.
