Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, Junction City Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to 1216 Downtain Street, in reference to a domestic disturbance called in by a juvenile in the home. Upon arrival of officers, they met with the female victim in the yard along with the juvenile caller and the suspect. When officers tried to talk with the suspect he retreated into the home in defiance of the officer’s orders to stop and was heard barricading a door of the home. Officers learned the suspect had firearms inside the home so they evacuated the female victim and two children from the property and set up a perimeter around in the home assisted by members of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office.
The Junction City/Geary County SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. A Detective from the JCPD was able establish phone communication with the suspect who was inside the home. Officers evacuated nearby homes and continued to negotiate with the suspect by phone until about 1555 hours, when he was convinced to came out and surrender. No serious injuries occurred during the event and the suspect, 40 year old Juan Resendiz, was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Felony Obstruction of Official Duty according to Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown
