Marcus Foster scored 25 points and Kansas State overcame a stretch which saw them go the first seven minutes of the game without a Field Goal to rally and defeat Oral Roberts 71-63 Wednesday night at Bramlage Coliseum to pick up their first win of the 2013-14 season.
Oral Roberts jumped out to a 12-2 lead before Nino Williams knocked home that first Field Goal with 13-12 remaining in the first half. The deficit grew to 16-4 before the Wildcats finally got moving and outscored the Golden Eagles 26-11 for the rest of the half to grab a 30-27 halftime lead. K-State never trailed in the second half and even stretched its lead to double digits a few times but the Golden Eagles hung around thanks to some sluggish periods and free throw shooting issues that carried over from last Friday’s season-opening loss to Northern Colorado as K-State missed 10 of its 30 attempts from the charity stripe. The Wildcat Defense had a solid game holding Oral Roberts to just over 37 percent shooting from the field.
Foster who continues to impress early in his Freshman season was one of three Wildcats in double figures joined by D.J. Johnson who had 12 points and Will Spradling who added 10. Kansas State (1-1) will next take the floor on Sunday when they welcome Long Beach State to the Little Apple. Tipoff at Bramlage is set for 3 p.m.
