The Manhattan high basketball teams finished off 2013 with a pair of wins over Centennial league foe Emporia. The girls improved to 3-1 on the season with a 66-40 win over the Lady Spartans. Darby Price led the way for MHS with a career high 23 points. Caroline Ballard scored 15 points and Savannah Roberts poured in 12 points for a career high. Manhattan shot 46% from the floor in the game including 59% from the floor in the first half. Whitney Wilhite led the way for Emporia with 10 points.
The boys team improved to 4-0 on the season with a blow out 66-35 win over the Spartans. Payton Stephens and Alex Stitt combined for 29 points for the Tribe. The Indians exploded for 42 points in the second half and shot an unbelievable 70% from the floor in the ball game, including knocking down 18 of 22 shots in the second half. Gabe Awbrey splashed four three’s as the Tribe shot seven of nine from behind the arc.
The Tribe will be back at it in 2014 when they open up the new year with a road test at Washburn Rural on January 7th.
