The Riley County has won the Central Region Fire Prevention Program of the Year award from the U.S. Army Installation Management Command’s. The department scored 99.51 percent overall.
The Fire Prevention Branch of FRFD received several prevention-specific honors.The Prevention Branch educates soldiers, family members, and patrons of the post.
“We work with the entire installation and regional partners, delivering services ranging from fire safety briefings to the newest soldiers arriving at Fort Riley to providing fire safety recommendations to the garrison and division commanders,” Ivan May, lead fire inspector said.
The Kansas Fire Marshall presented the Fire Prevention Branch of FRFD the Michelle Brenner Lifetime Achievement Award from the Fire Educators Association of Kansas. The Fire Prevention Branch also earned a perfect score on the Fire and Emergency Services Program Assessment.
William Hadley, FRFD assistant fire chief said the department partners with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Directorate of Public Works to ensure building fire codes are met and says teamwork has helped the department reach this accomplishment.
“This award shows the hard work and dedication by our fire department members, and is a reflection of the constant teamwork through all the branches’ efforts in making a successful fire and emergency services program here at Fort Riley,” Hadley said.
The department will advance to the Department of Defense-level competition, the winner will be announced later this month.
