Junction City Police reported Wednesday afternoon at about 1 p.m. JCPD was contacted by Children’s Mercy Hospital, in Kansas City, Mo, in reference to a three month old infant that had been transferred from the Geary Community Hospital on this date. Information was received that the infant showed evidence it had been abused and was in critical condition.
Members of the Junction City Police Department’s Investigations Division responded to Children’s Mercy Hospital and began an investigation into how the child had received the injuries.
The investigation led to the identification of a suspect, Cyjay Echon, 22, a Ft. Riley soldier, who resides in Junction City. An arrest warrant was applied for and granted by the Geary County District Court, and Echon was taken into custody by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and held on $150,000 bond.
According to JCPD Lt. Jeff Childs, the investigation continues.
