The Kansas City Royals have selected Stephen F. Austin shortstop Hunter Dozier with the eighth overall pick of the 2013 MLB draft.
Baseball America considered Dozier to be the 38th-ranked player heading into the draft. He hit .395 with 17 homeruns and 52 RBI’s this season for the Lumberjacks in the Southland Conference.
MLB lists the slotted signing bonus for the number eight pick as $3,137,800, but the Royals will likely offer less than that to save money to overpay other draft picks. Teams can spend more or less the slotted bonus on specific picks, but they will suffer penalties if they go over their total assigned draft pool.
