1st Infantry Division and Army Birthday Cakes

Fort Riley celebrated the 95th birthday of the 1st Infantry Division, the 237th Birthday of the United States Army, and the end of a week-long celebration for the soldiers and families of the Big Red One.

The celebration was an opportunity for the Big Red One family to gather and remember the division’s history, and a chance for the soldiers to unwind and build stronger relationships through competitions.

That was Chief warrant officer Tony Mercado of 1/6 cavalry, one of the winners of the paintball competition  says the week is great for providing that connection among the soldiers.

Other events in the week included combatives, weight lifting, and softball.  1/16th Infantry took home the coveted win for this week’s competitions.  The final event was the cutting of two birthday cakes for the two birthdays of the organizations with the first cuts made with cavalry sabers by the oldest and youngest soldiers in the division.

All photographs were provided by the 1st Infantry Division PAO.
