COLUMBUS, Kan. (AP) A southeast Kansas jail inmate who walked away from a work detail is back behind bars and facing new charges.
The Cherokee County sheriff’s department says a tip led authorities Tuesday night to an apartment in Pittsburg, where they found Jimmy Dale Sluder hiding in a bathroom.
The Pittsburg man fled the Cherokee County Jail early Sunday while taking out trash. He’d been held since April on theft-related charges.
The Cherokee County News-Advocated reports that Sluder is suspected of burglarizing a Columbus home Tuesday before his capture. Authorities say the homeowner was tied up after walking in on the burglary. Sluder is accused of leaving with a vehicle and other items.
