KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) A New York author and literary agent has co-written a memoir about her husband’s liver transplant at a Kansas hospital.
From Monday to Wednesday, Barbara Zitwer will be in the Kansas City area to talk to broadcasters and sign copies of “Still Livin’: The True Story of How One Couple Defied All Odds and Found the Gift of Life.” She wrote it with her husband, Gil Alicea.
Because the transplant waiting list was long in New York, the couple went to the University of Kansas Hospital. While Alicea was recovering, she also finished her first book, “The J.M. Barrie Ladies’ Swimming Society.”
The couple is donating half the proceeds from the U.S. sales of “Still Livin”’ to the Kansas hospital’s transplant program. A Dutch version of the book was released first.
