Despite amassing 352 yards rushing and 507 yards of total offense, three turnovers did in the Kansas City Chiefs in a 20-13 loss to the playoff-bound Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Indy clinched a playoff berth on Sunday, a year after they lost 14 games.
On the Chiefs’ first possession, Darius Butler returned a Brady Quinn interception 32 yards for a TD. Combined with a Jamaal Charles fumble deep in Colts territory in the second quarter allowed Indy a 13-3 halftime lead.
Charles though would strike back with a highlight-reel 86 yard scamper to the house on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. Ryan Succop would add his second field goal to tie the score at 13 with 6:00 left in the third quarter.
KC would drive the ball early in the fourth quarter to the Indianapolis 27, but Peyton Hillis and Quinn were stuffed on consecutive plays to turn the ball over on downs. Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck marched the Colts 73 yards in 13 plays for the game winning 7-yard TD pass to Reggie Wayne with 4:08 remaining. The Chiefs went three and out on their next possession, and Indy ran out the clock after getting a first down.
Charles crossed the 200-yard mark for the second time this season, as he gained 226 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown. Fullback Peyton Hillis also cracked the century mark with 101 yards on 15 touches.
The Chiefs will finish out the regular season on Sunday at the rival Denver Broncos, who still have a shot at home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.
