In what was a competitive game for much of the day, the West Virginia Mountaineers Women’s Basketball team marked their first trip to the Little Apple a rousing success as they used a 21-7 run down the stretch to earn a 66-52 win over Kansas State before 6,778 Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum.
K-State jumped out to an early lead in the first half but the Mountaineers eventually pulled even and both teams took turns at the lead with the Wildcats heading into the locker room with a slim 23-22 lead at intermission.
The Mountaineers led by as much as six points in the second half but K-State would fight back thanks to three point baskets by Brianna Craig and Haley Texada. However, when West Virginia began to get hot, the Wildcats were not able to match it as the shots weren’t falling down the stretch allowing the Mountaineers (10-5, 2-2) to leave Bramlage Coliseum with their second straight victory.
Kansas State (10-6, 1-3) had three players in double figures led by 20 points from Britney Chambers, 12 from Craig and 10 from Tejada.
Things don’t get easier for K-State as defending National Champion Baylor comes to Manhattan on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
