Kansas State was picked as an at-large selection in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year Sunday evening when the Wildcats were revealed as a 9-seed in the South Region.
K-State (22-11) will face 8-seed Creighton, and former Wildcat guard Marcus Foster, in a first round game on Friday in Charlotte, NC. If K-State advances, it would almost surely face 1-seed Virginia in the second round.
Game times and TV listings had not been released as of 6:30 Sunday.
The Wildcats beat Wake Forest as part of last season’s “First Four” in Dayton, Ohio before losing to 6-seed Cincinnati.
This year, a 4th-place finish in the nation’s top RPI conference was important as K-State’s resume lacked top tier wins. On the flip side, there were no significantly damaging losses for Bruce Weber’s team either.
It is the program’s 30th NCAA Tournament appearance all-time.
Weber said Dean Wade and Barry Brown should be ready to play after each were injured during the Big 12 tournament.
Creighton (21-11) finished in fourth place in the Big East Conference and boasts one of the country’s best offenses, averaging 84 points per game.
