K-State junior outfielder Drew Mount was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 16th round (469th overall) of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday. This is according to a release from K-State.

Mount, who finished his first season at K-State after transferring from De Anza College, led the Wildcats in home runs (9), triples (7), RBI (47), slugging (.538) and stolen bases (21). His triple total is the highest from a Wildcat since Heath Schesser recorded eight in 1997.

The Santa Clara, California, native was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention following his junior campaign and was tabbed Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in three consecutive weeks, a league record.

Mount was one of 10 National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on March 12 after hitting a pair of grand slams against Mercer on March 9 in which he had a career-high eight runs batted in.

Mount’s selection marks the 15th consecutive season in which K-State has had a player chosen in the MLB First-Year Player Draft and is the 116th Wildcat to be selected in the MLB Draft since 1965.

He is the eighth Wildcat to be chosen by the Reds organization and first since Lucas Benenati in 2016.
