MANHATTAN — The Manhattan Fire Department says a fire at an apartment complex was accidental due to improperly disposed smoking materials.
The fire originated on the third floor balcony of the building at 3128 Lundin Drive and quickly spread to the attic. The three-story, 12-unit building sustained an estimated $45,000 in damage to the structure and contents. Visible damage could be seen on the building’s east side shingles.
No injuries were reported. All occupants got out safely and a dog found in the building was unharmed.
The owner is listed as Strata Properties LLC, with the resident agent listed as Scott Gillam of Manhattan.
Update 8 p.m. Wednesday
No injuries were reported after fire broke out at a third story apartment balcony Wednesday afternoon in west Manhattan.
The Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 3128 Lundin Drive at around 2 p.m. There they found fire showing from the deck of a top floor apartment with reports there may be people inside. Crews searched the building and found no occupants in the building. A dog was located inside the building and appeared to be unharmed. The fire reached a second alarm before it was contained within less than a half hour.
The building, a 3-story, 12-unit apartment complex with an office on the first floor sustained noticeable damage to shingles on the building’s east side. A damage estimate was undetermined at the time of the release from the fire department. The owner is listed as Strata Properties LLC, with the resident agent listed as Scott Gillam of Manhattan. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Riley County Emergency Medical Services and Riley County Police Department officers assisted firefighters at the scene.
3:30 p.m. Wednesday
A west Manhattan apartment fire was quickly extinguished Wednesday afternoon, with the cause still under investigation.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. to the the 3100 block of Lundin Ave., shortly before 2:30 p.m. Battalion Chief Jared Elsasser says when firefighters arrived, they located the fire on the outside deck of a third floor apartment on the building’s southeast side. There were no injuries and everyone inside the building got out safely. Damage to the inside of the apartment is unknown, but Elsasser says it’s believed any fire or smoke damage was contained to the one unit.
Fire crews could be seen tearing away shingles from the building’s roof to help combat the flames. A ladder truck also was deployed to aid firefighters. Further information is pending a full investigation.
