James Akinjo had 16 points with seven rebounds and second-ranked Baylor defensively dominated No. 6 Villanova 57-36. The victory likely will put the defending national champion Bears in the top spot in the new poll. The 9-0 Bears never trailed in the rematch of an NCAA Sweet 16 game last March. Villanova shot only 22% and scored its fewest points in 689 games played for two-time national champion coach Jay Wright. Baylor moved into position to become the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 when Purdue lost to Rutgers on Thursday night.

T.J. Otzelberger became the first Iowa State coach to win his first 10 games with the team, guiding the 17th-ranked Cyclones past Jackson State 47-37. The Cyclones improved 10-0 after ending last season with 18 straight losses. Aljaz Kunc led Iowa State with 12 points and Gabe Kalscheur added 11. Jonas James scored 11 points for Jackson State, which is 2-7.

Taz Sherman scored 27 points to lead West Virginia to a 63-50 victory over Kent State on Sunday. Sean McNeil added 19 points for West Virginia, which won its sixth straight. The Mountaineers continue to have problems getting production from anyone besides Sherman and McNeil. No other West Virginia player scored more than four. After Kent State coach Rob Senderoff was ejected with 7:54 left, McNeil sank four free throws and capped a 14-0 run with a layup for a 54-37 lead. West Virginia shot poorly from the free-throw line for the second straight game, shooting 54%. Sincere Carry scored 18 points to lead Kent State.
