K-State Adds Shematsi for the 2022-23 Season

MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has rounded out his 2022-23 roster, as the program has added Sarah Shematsi as a transfer forward from LSU.

“Sarah brings athleticism and a good all-around game to our roster,” said Mittie about K-State’s latest addition. “She shoots the three with excellent range and has been a winner her entire collegiate career.  We are excited about her being a Wildcat this season.”

Shematsi played two seasons at LSU – 2020-21 and 2021-22 – and saw action in 35 games with two starts. The 6’2″ forward from Annecy, France, recorded 2.3 points per game and 1.2 rebounds per game. Shematsi showed her touch from distance, as she carded a 30.4 percent (21-of-69) effort from 3-point range.

In her third career game in Baton Rouge, Shematsi registered a career-high 15 points in just 19 minutes of action, which included a 5-of-6 performance from three.

Prior to her time at LSU, Shematsi played two seasons at South Plains College in Texas. Shematsi helped the Texans to a 33-1 overall record and the number two seed in the 2020 NJCAA National Tournament before it was halted by COVID-19.

Shematsi was a two-time All-WJCAC honoree, the 2019 WJCAC Freshman of the Year and 2019 NJCAA All-Region V team. She was also selected to the 2019 NJCAA National Tournament All-Tournament team and was the 2019 Most Valuable Player at the Juco Top 40 All-Star event. In her sophomore season in 2019-20, Shematsi played in 32 games, averaging 12.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the field. During her freshman season in 2018-19, she averaged 13.6 points and 5.1 rebounds while starting 32 of 35 games.

Before arriving at South Plains College, Shematsi won a gold medal for France in the 2016 FIBA 3×3 U18 European and World Championships. She also competed for Toulouse MB club team.

The Wildcats enter the 2022-23 season two wins shy of 1,000 in its history. Mittie will begin the 2022-23 season one victory shy of 600 in his coaching career and five wins short of 150 during his time in Manhattan.

K-State women’s basketball season tickets for the 2022-23 season are available now for purchase. For more information on season ticket packages for the Wildcats’ 19-game home schedule, contact the K-State Athletics Ticket Office by calling 1-800-221-CATS or visit www.kstatesports.com/tickets.
