More people were arrested during Fake Patty’s Day celebrations in Manhattan last weekend than in any year prior, according to the Riley County Police Department, which released its annual analysis Friday in a four-page report.
Data shows arrests were up almost 51% compared to the five year average of roughly 38%. Compared to 2023, police say there was an 84% increase in the number of people arrested this year, with 57 total this year compared to 28 last year. Police arrested 24 individuals for interference and obstruction, compared with just one arrest each in 2023, 2022, 2019 and 2017 and zero in 2018. Data wasn’t tracked in 2020 and 2021.
Police issued 107 citations for possession of an open container in public. A total of 260 citations were issued, which was up from the figure of 142 the year before, but still about 12% below the five year average of 295.
Citizen initiated calls for service were about steady with previous year figures, with 180 total calls for service. All calls for service were up over the five year average, with 533 noted between Friday night and Sunday morning.
