SHAWNEE COUNTY — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon in Topeka, Kansas.

Just after 3 p.m., the Topeka Police Department received a 911 call reporting a suspect connected to an armed carjacking earlier in the day was in the area of 16th and Harrison St. Police located Terrell Hayes-Osby, who then fled on foot and was chased west on 16th Street across Topeka Blvd. At one point, Hayes-Osby reportedly fired at officers, with four officers returning fire. Hayes-Osby was struck sometime shortly before 3:30 p.m. near 16th and Tyler Street. Medical aid was administered and Hayes-Osby was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive.

Hayes-Osby has a lengthy criminal history, including past convictions for 2nd-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated robbery and theft.

Once KBI completes its investigation, the case will be turned over to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review.
