K-State volleyball tops Lipscomb 3-1 to open home tourney

Kansas State volleyball opened their home schedule with a win Thursday, topping Lipscomb 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-22) in the first game of The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Classic at Morgan Family Arena.

The Bison (3-4) held the Wildcats (2-4) a .051 hitting percentage in Set 1 to grab an early 1-0 advantage, but K-State rallied back, winning the final three sets for its second win of the season.

Senior Pepperdine transfer Meg Brown led the Wildcats with 20 kills on a .471 clip and four blocks, followed by senior Aliyah Carter who had 17 kills and nine errors with seven digs and three blocks. Aniya Clinton had nine kills and nine errors with four digs.

Senior setter Izzi Szulczewski led the Wildcats with 47 assists and 12 digs, while senior libero Ella Larkin had a team-high 19 digs. Symone Sims had 11 digs.

The Wildcats had 10 errors in the first set, but kept their miscues limited to seven or less in the clinching three sets.

K-State hit a match-high .229 from the floor in Set 2, compared to .111 for Lipscomb.

In Set 3, K-State held the Bisons to a match-low .051 hitting clip while putting up a .171 percentage of its own, recording one of two aces in the match.

The Wildcats closed it out with a .129 hitting percentage from the floor, holding Lipscomb to .083.

The Wildcats will face North Carolina (4-1) on Sunday to wrap up their home tournament. The Tar Heels feature former Wabaunsee star Lauren Schutter.
