A former Manhattan mayor and a local school nurse are vying for the open District 51 seat in the Kansas House of Representatives.
Democrat Linda Morse and Republican Megan Steele aim to fill the seat left behind by Rep. Kenny Titus, R-Manhattan, who is running for the Kansas Senate in the Nov. 5 general election.
Morse first served on the Manhattan city commission beginning in April 2015 and was reelected to her seat in 2019. She was the mayor of Manhattan in 2018 and 2022, but she chose not to run for re-election to the city commission in 2023.
