Two months after it became aware of a data breach, HyVee is providing more information about its payment card incident that may have compromised some customers’ information, including in Manhattan. In a statement Thursday, the grocery chain said the data breach affected customers who used their credit and debit cards between Dec. 14, 2018 and July 29, 2019. It’s created a look-up module, available at hy-vee.com/paymentcardincident where you can search for the state and city of HyVee stores and the timeframes related to the incident. Riley County Police arrested a Junction City man Wednesday for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman. According to RCPD spokesperson Hali Rowland, officers were called out just before 3 p.m. after a 41-year-old woman reported a known male suspect pointed a gun at her in the 1900 block of Strong Ave. in Manhattan. Officers arrested 56-year-old Oliver Raglin Jr. in connection on an offense of aggravated assault. Raglin Jr. was issued a total bond of $5,000.00. Raglin Jr. was not confined at the time of this report.
The Flint Hills Breadbasket is currently in a dire need of replenishment. The food pantry, which provides food to those in need in the Manhattan area had an additional 579 vouchers go out to families across the area this compared to last year. Those vouchers don’t necessarily mean that they are providing 579 meals, but rather an entire week’s worth of food for an entire family, regardless of size. Riley County Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon in west Manhattan. Just before 5 p.m. officers were called out to the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road in the Redbud Estates neighborhood to respond to a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound not believed to be life threatening. He was transported to Ascension Via Christi for treatment. Police say no arrests have been made. Their investigation suggests it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. RCPD says this is an ongoing investigation. BP
City of Manhattan officials continue work along Hayes Drive where two sinkholes developed less than a mile from each other in August. On KMAN’s In Focus Tuesday, Manhattan City Manager Ron Fehr spoke about the magnitude of the sinkhole that exists on Hayes north of Levee Drive. The US Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Research Service has announced the hiring of Dr. Alfonso Clavijo as the Director of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). NBAF Coordinator for USDA APHIS Dr. Ken Burton tells KMAN they’re excited to have a permanent NBAF Director now in place. “He brings such a wide wealth of experience, not only from academia, but he’s also the Executive Director for the Centres for Animal Disease in Winnipeg, Canada,” Burton said. Riley County Police arrested a 16-year-old student from Manhattan High School West Campus Monday. According to Tuesday’s arrest report, Charles Lee Jones was charged with disorderly conduct and battery. Police were called out to the school around 12:10 p.m. for an altercation. The arrest was made just before 1 p.m. A short time earlier, the school was placed in secure campus with school officials lifting it a brief time later. Four years after an initial Riley Community Needs Assessment was conducted, the Flint Hills Wellness Coalition is asking residents to complete its second such comprehensive community needs that will be more inclusive of the diverse population The issues covered by the survey include quality of life, physical health, mental health, social issues, children and youth, education, aging, housing, transportation, economics and personal finance. One person was critically injured and three others were arrested following a shooting incident Sunday afternoon in Junction City. According to the Junction City Police Department, officers were called out shortly before 4:30 p.m. to the 200 block of East 1st Street for the report of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, they found 18-year-old Coye Crane of Chapman injured. He was later transported to KU Med via LifeStar in critical condition.
