MANHATTAN — A four-hour preliminary examination has been scheduled for a Manhattan man accused in the murder of an infant child last month. D’Khari Lyons, 23, appeared in Riley County District Court Tuesday from his jail cell, one month to the day after the death of 2-month old Michael Calvert Jr. Lyons appeared with counsel, as Chief Public Defender Cole Hawver was appointed to defend him. Riley County authorities continue to search for a Manhattan man involved in a hit and run crash that seriously injured a woman. According to a social media post from the Riley County Police Department Monday, 23-year-old Hassan Rueda, who goes by the name Jonathan, remains at large following the Nov. 30 crash that injured 61-year-old Susan Keller of Manhattan.  Keller was transported to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment of her injuries. MANHATTAN — Pancakes were grilled up Saturday as the Manhattan Kiwanis Club held its biggest major fundraiser of the year. Pottorf Hall at Cico Park was filled with the smells of flapjacks, eggs and sausage as Kiwanians put on their 68th annual event in Manhattan. Preparation got underway Friday evening as more than 50 volunteers spared time to either flip pancakes or help with other aspects of the feed. JUNCTION CITY — A Junction City woman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. At a hearing Friday in Geary County District Court, 34-year-old Amanda Lynn Edison entered a guilty plea to one felony count of conspiracy to commit first degree murder, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s office. Edison also pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess marijuana with the intent to distribute. The crimes occurred between May and August. A sentencing date has not yet been set. MANHATTAN — Results of a recent 2018 Labor Force Analysis for the Greater Manhattan/Pottawatomie County area shows some intriguing signs about where the economy is trending. The Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation recently teamed up with the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce to form the Greater Manhattan Economic Partnership. The two entities interviewed 45 area human resource managers, plant managers and CEOs to gauge key criteria involving labor, education and training infrastructure, community services or quality of life factors. NEW JERSEY — Pharmacies and retailers are pulling liquid infant ibuprofen from the shelves after concerns that the medicine may contain a higher concentration of ibuprofen than advertised. New Jersey-based Tris Pharma, Inc. is voluntarily recalling three lots of the liquid ibuprofen sold under Walmart CVS and Family Dollar house brands. The product is used as a pain reliever and fever reducer and was packaged in 0.5 ounce bottles for the recalled lots. JUNCTION CITY — A 64-year-old Junction City man was arrested Wednesday on a host of child exploitation and drug counts. According to the Junction City Police Department, William Hedgecock is facing nine counts of child exploitation, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and animal cruelty. Hedgecock is being lodged in the Geary County Detention Center without bond awaiting a first court appearance. Authorities have not released any further details regarding the charges against him.
