The City of Manhattan has come out with estimates of the damage caused by the Labor Day Wildcat Creek flood — and the cost is in the millions. Manhattan City Manager Ron Fehr was on Tuesday’s edition of KMAN’s In Focus and said the flash flooding caused $17.2 million in damage. He broke that down into private and public real estate damage — $14.5 million of which was sustained by private structures while $2.7 million was sustained by city property. Angel Davis, 44, of Ogden was arrested while in the 300 block of Seventh St. in Ogden on September 20, 2018 at approximately 2:40 AM. Davis was arrested on offenses of possession of opiates, narcotic, or certain stimulant (x2), possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and use/possess paraphernalia. WICHITA — A driver has been charged with running into a Kansas sheriff’s deputy while intoxicated and breaking the deputy’s leg. Sedgwick County sheriff’s Lt. Tim Myers said in a release that the driver was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated battery while driving under the influence in the April 28 crash in east Wichita. His name won’t be released until he makes a first appearance. The Wichita Eagle reports that an arrest warrant is pending. HOLTON — Authorities say a Kansas man has been charged with fatally shooting his father while he was in bed and then barricading himself in the home for hours. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that 49-year-old Derrick Bohnenkemper, of Holton, is charged with first-degree murder and six other felonies in the death of 73-year-old Gaylen Bohnenkemper. Police responded Tuesday after a 911 caller said her son had shot his father in the head. WELLINGTON — A 29-year-old Kansas woman who was arrested after her boyfriend was stabbed to death has been released from jail after she claimed the killing was self-defense. Sumner County Kerwin Spencer says Ashley Pearson was arrested on suspicion of murder after her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kyle Hill, died Saturday morning at a home the two shared. Spencer says Pearson gave a statement two days later saying she acted in self-defense. He said Wednesday the investigation is continuing but her story fits the definition of self-defense under Kansas law. No further information was released. A committee has been founded in Manhattan to help provide financial assistance to those impacted by the Labor Day Wildcat Creek flooding. The Manhattan Flood Recovery Committee is made up of representatives from Catholic Charities, United Way, the Salvation Army and Shepherd’s Crossing. The local charities will be collaborating to distribute funds that were collected by the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation. As funds are limited, they will be distributed according to the applicants’ need. Flood victims can apply for assistance online. COLUMBUS — A 28-year-old Kansas man has been sentenced to life in prison for sex crimes involving a child. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt say Timothy Russell Frobish, of Galena, was sentenced Tuesday to life without the possibility for parole for 25 years. Frobish was found guilty by a Cherokee County jury in January 2015 of several sex and drug-related crimes, with three of the counts subject to Jessica’s Law, which allows the sentence Frobish received. Frobish also will be subject to lifetime post-release supervision and electronic monitoring. Prosecutors say the crimes occurred in February 2013.

HOLTON — A man is in jail after a fatal shooting and standoff in northeast Kansas. The Jackson County, Kansas, sheriff’s office says deputies went to a home in Holton about 3 a.m. Tuesday after a woman reported her son had shot her husband and she was barricaded in a bedroom. Deputies were able to help the woman escape the home. Sheriff Tim Morse said he spoke with the suspect for several hours but the man refused to leave the home.
