Officers filed a report for motor vehicle theft in the 500 block of Stone Pointe Dr. in Manhattan on August 15, 2019, at approximately 8:30 AM. Officers listed 29-year-old male as the victim when he reported an unknown suspect took his 2007 Grey Nissan Altima. The estimated total loss is not listed but is expected to be over $500.00.   Police ask that anyone with information please contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Part of College Avenue north of Marlatt will be closed to through traffic starting Monday during construction by Riley County Public Works. The structure replacement project is located on the stretch of College between Marion Avenue and Livestock Units Road. County crews will be removing two culverts and replacing them with a 12 by 4 by 30 reinforced box culvert. Weather permitting, work should be complete by the end of next week.

The Riley County Police Department will be starting a new campaign to better help deliver mental health services to the community. RCPD Director Dennis Butler told the Riley County commissioners on Thursday that the One Mind campaign is a pledge to deliver this service for the next one to three years.  The campaign includes reaching benchmarks on training a certain percentage of their patrol officers and crisis intervention team.  The officers already have an eight hour training course on mental health first aid, but Butler would like to have more trained in a 40 hour class. The Manhattan Public Library hosted its first ever Check Out and Chill Out event to celebrate the first day of school Wednesday. The event saw kids receiving a free snow cone when they checked out a book. Public Relations and Development Coordinator Maddie Ogle says the event aimed to springboard more people to sign up for a library card. The library partnered with Manhattan Special Olympics. WICHITA — Authorities say a Kansas sheriff’s deputy who is a suspect in a felony investigation is no longer in the U.S. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the department is no longer seeking the public’s help in locating 29-year-old Derick Chandler, who worked for the department. The post didn’t say where he was believed to be located. The department said previously that Chandler disappeared after Wellington police and the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office identified him as a suspect in a jointly investigated case. GARDEN CITY — Tyson officials say a spark from welding during maintenance is the likely cause of a fire that damaged the company’s plant in Holcomb. Tyson representatives met Wednesday with state and other government officials to discuss Friday night’s fire, which caused extensive damage. No one was injured. KWCH reports the company reaffirmed its commitment to rebuild the plant and reopen it as quickly as possible. Hy-Vee is investigating after detecting a data breach on some of its payment processing systems, according to a Wednesday release. Company officials believe that the “unauthorized activity” was centered on transactions at some Hy-Vee fuel pumps, drive-thru coffee shops and restaurants including Market Grilles. Due to differences in the point-of-sale systems, transactions at normal grocery checkout lanes, pharmacies, clinics and Aisles Online purchases are not believed to be impacted. According to the release, the investigation is in its initial stages and they have no information on which locations nor what time frame the breach occurred.
