Manhattan Broadcasting Company and Rocking M Media announced Friday their formal filing with the Federal Communications Commission to transfer ownership of KBLS-FM 102.5 from Rocking M Media to Manhattan Broadcasting Company. Rocking M had previously announced the agreement to acquire KBLS-FM from Alpha Media as part of a five station agreement on Wednesday October 12th. Riley County commissioners were informed of a Chamber of Commerce program based in economic development. “One of the things we’ve talked to this commission about is a community-driven economic development plan,” Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce president Lyle Butler told commissioners Thursday. “This is sort of our vision for where does Manhattan/Riley County (go), what are we going to look like in the future?” Butler’s presentation introduced the Advantage Manhattan program titled, “Power Our Potential.” Butler said the program, which will kick off in January, hopes to create 600 primary jobs and more than 465 secondary jobs in the area…
OLATHE — The four men charged with killing the co-owner of a suburban Kansas City gun store during a robbery will have separate trials. A Johnson County judge on Thursday granted a motion from two of the defendants, Londro Patterson and De’Anthony Wiley, seeking separate trials. The Kansas City Star reports prosecutors wanted Patterson and Wiley tried to together but did not object to separate trials for the other defendants, Hakeem Malik and Nicquan Midgyettt. WICHITA — Kansas farmers are harvesting what are expected to be record corn and soybean crops. The National Agricultural Statistics Service reported Wednesday that the 713 million bushels of corn forecast in Kansas is a 23 percent increase compared to last year’s production. Kansas is harvesting corn from 4.85 million acres this season, up 24 percent from last year’s acreage. Average corn yields are down a bushel to 147 bushels per acre. The agency is also projecting a record soybean production of 180 million bushels in Kansas. That is up 21 percent more than last year. Sorghum production is forecast at 264…

Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Patricia Price, 39, of Ogden, Kansas on October 12, 2016, at approximately 1:15 PM. Price was arrested while at 100 Courthouse Plaza in Manhattan on the offense of violation of probation which was listed on a warrant with “no bond” from Junction City, Kansas. At the time of this report, she was confined at the Riley County Jail.

DEXTER, Kan. (AP) Kansas floodwaters have destroyed an historic stone bridge in Cowley County. The Wichita Eagle reports that flooding over the weekend caused the 105-year-old Fox Bridge over Grouse Creek to collapse. The county says on its Facebook page that the bridge was weakened by the creek’s cresting over it and heavy currents slamming against it. The area is known for its stone bridges, which were built by Russian and German artisans from around 1890 to 1917. The bridges range from one to three arches.
