County fire crews were busy over the weekend combating three wildfires in Riley County and a home north of Manhattan was reportedly lost. County officials indicated Monday the home was owned by Greg Wells. No injuries were reported and the home was cleared before it was overtaken by flames. The total loss has not been released. WICHITA — Prosecutors say a Kansas woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for embezzling millions of dollars from the credit union where she worked. The U.S. attorney’s office said in a news release that Nita Rae Nirschl of Parsons was ordered Monday to pay more than $10 million in restitution. The 66-year-old woman was an officer and employee at the Parsons Pittsburg Credit Union. She pleaded guilty in December to one count each of embezzlement, money laundering and tax evasion. Authorities and emergency crews continue to search Tuttle Creek Lake for man who may have drowned, according to the Riley County Police Department Sunday morning. The RCPD says 21-year-old Anthony Berg of Stillwell is the victim and that his body has not yet been found. Authorities say recovery efforts continue today. The RCPD said it was called Saturday at approximately 3 p.m. for the report of a drowning. Updated: Friday, 10:39 a.m. No injuries were reported in a Friday morning fire at Wefald Hall on Kansas State University’s Manhattan campus. The fire was extinguished by the hall’s suppression system, according to the K-State Police Department. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental due to a faulty fan. Officers filed a report for aggravated assault in the 500 block of Pierre St. in Manhattan yesterday afternoon. Police listed two 15 year old females as the victims when it was reported a 40 year old female known to them pulled a knife during an argument. Katrina Fair, 33, of Manhattan, was arrested while in the 3000 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan early yesterday evening. Katrina was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer, and domestic battery.
