As KMAN earlier reported, Riley County EMS has lost long-time director Larry Couchman, after 27 years of service with the agency.  Couchman will now oversee the Via Christi Hospital Emergency Department on a full time basis.  Director of Pottawatomie County EMS David Adams will now manage both Riley and Pottawatomie EMS services.  Adams is a past employee of Riley County EMS and is being welcomed back to the Riley County EMS.

SKIATOOK, Okla. — Crews have recovered the body of a Kansas man who disappeared while swimming in Lake Skiatook on the Fourth of July. Tulsa television station KOTV reports that 36-year-old Chance Humble of Coffeyville disappeared at a swimming area at the lake in Osage County in northeastern Oklahoma. Witnesses say Humble jumped off a boat to go swimming, resurfaced, threw his hat onto the sundeck of the boat then went under again and did not come back up. TOPEKA — A Kansas board has approved a temporary rule requiring county election officials to throw out thousands of votes cast in state and local races by people who have registered without providing proof of their U.S. citizenship. The State Rules and Regulations Board’s action Tuesday came only a day before Kansas opens advance voting for its Aug. 2 primary. The rule was sought by Secretary of State Kris Kobach and will be in effect for 120 days, through the Nov. 8 general election. Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall helped open a conference on human trafficking in Manhattan Tuesday morning. Almost 200 law enforcement officers and victim service providers from across Kansas are in Manhattan Tuesday and Wednesday to team up in the fight against human trafficking. “Human trafficking is the modern form of slavery,” Beall said. “It’s here now. Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education went through the reorganization process for the new 2016-17 school year.  The Monday meeting opened with the election of Board Officers.  Board member Amy Schwein was not present.  Rob Adams was re-elected as President by a vote of 5 to 0 and Ryan Hergitt was elected Vice President by a vote of 3 to 2. For 27 years Leslie Campbell has been working with the Pottawatomie County Health Department and served as director for 18 of those years–but she’s stepping down as director in the near future, taking on a position as a clinic manager with the Riley County Health Department. Last week Riley County commissioners voted to keep their salaries flat and eliminated any cost of living adjustment (COLA) increases and step increases for themselves for the 2017 budget. Monday afternoon, commissioners agreed to eliminate COLA increases for employees as well for 2017, but did keep normal step increases. Before the decision, commissioners and department heads went back and forth on what changes to make to the pay scale. Changes in both COLA and step increases threatened to force the county into restructuring its entire pay scale system.
