As Manhattan  continues to expand and prosper, USD 383 is looking to plan and prepare for growth and possibly update facilities. At Wednesday night’s board of education meeting, assistant superintendent Eric Reid addressed the board on behalf of the Facilities and Growth Committee. The committee has received eight proposals from various firms looking to help the district with a facility needs analysis and even help them move forward with any plans. Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is holding a reception and blessing for its new patient admissions and endoscopy units. Patients, medical professionals and community members are invited. The event will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 21 in Patient Admissions. Deacon Wayne Talbot will provide a blessing, prayer and brief remarks. A second, similar ceremony will be held in the new GI/Endoscopy waiting room. A reception with light refreshments will follow. The Wamego City Commission tabled several issues brought up at the last meeting. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page was ready to approve the contracts for the City Office Security Project, but the signed contracts had not been received at meeting time. In other business, Page said the Humane Society (has the City’s contract) contacted him about improvements needed for the Dog Pound. MANHATTAN- Two women who are suing Kansas State University for refusing to investigate complaints that they were raped off-campus are getting support from the federal government. The U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Education say in a court brief that the university is incorrect in its conclusion that it isn’t responsible for what happens at off-campus fraternity houses. Riley County Police Department arrested a Salina man on Tuesday. Officers in the 500 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard arrested Russell Disney, 56, on Tuesday. Disney was arrested on the offenses of aggravated assault and probation violation (X3) which were listed on warrants from Saline County. He was given a bond of $61,876.

Two Ogden residents were taken to the hospital following a one vehicle accident in Saline county Tuesday. Irene Booth, 51, of Ogden was driving a 2015 Mazda passenger car westbound on I-70, two miles east of the Ohio exit at mile marker 255.5, when she swerved to miss a deer, overcorrected, and entered into the north ditch, striking a fence and a tree. Booth and a passenger,  Angel Booth, 9,  also of of Ogden, were taken to the Salina Regional Health Center. The accident was reported at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. Both had safety restraints on.

Manhattan Assistant City Manager, Keil Mangus, presented updated language to city noise ordinances to the Commissioner’s meeting. City Attorney, Katie Jackson, stated they were antiquated – originally written in 1989.  However, the proposed updates left Commissioners and local business owners with more questions than answers. Commissioner Mike Dodson asked, “What is reasonableness?” The new language provides required decidable levels and time constraints for residential, commercial, and industrial zoning areas. What was originally intended to help residents and Riley County Police Department, turned into a public debate. An Olathe man was arrested Friday. Kelly Tessendorf, 37, was arrested while at the Riley County Police Department on Friday according to the Tuesday RCPD Report. Tessendorf was arrested on the offenses of violation of the offender registration act (X3). He was given a bond of $15,000.00 and was not confined at the Riley County Jail. A Manhattan man was arrested Friday. Police arrested Christopher Harris, 28, while at the Riley County Police Department on Friday according to the Tuesday RCPD Report.
